Labor and Birth
Everything you need to know to prepare for labor, delivery, and bringing your baby into the world.
Stages of Labor
Labor is divided into three stages: early and active labor (cervix dilation), pushing and delivery of your baby, and delivery of the placenta.
Signs of Labor
Watch for regular contractions that increase in frequency and intensity, your water breaking, a bloody show (loss of mucus plug), and lower back pain that does not go away.
Pain Management Options
Options include epidural anesthesia, nitrous oxide, IV medications, natural techniques (breathing, movement, water therapy), and hypnobirthing. Discuss preferences with your provider.
Your Birth Plan
A birth plan outlines your preferences for labor and delivery. Include pain management preferences, who you want present, and any special requests. Remember to stay flexible as circumstances may change.
